HOMEOWNERSHIP JUSTICE

Our Homes.
Our Health.
Our Legacy.

Black homeownership is more than a deed. It is family history, stability, health, equity, and the right to pass something forward.

⌂OUR MISSION

Protect the woman.
Protect the home.
Protect the legacy.

Women of Stop Deed Theft advances homeownership justice through community education, survivor-led advocacy, trauma-informed care, and demands for effective investigation, legal representation, and restoration of ownership and equity.

01

Homeownership Justice

Bring visibility to deed theft, contested ownership, predatory transfers, and the systems that leave families vulnerable.

02

Trauma-Informed Care

Recognize that threatened displacement affects safety, sleep, emotional well-being, and the health of families.

03

Sisterhood & Black Legacy

Center Black women, elders, and directly affected homeowners as leaders—not merely as case numbers.

WHAT WE DEMAND

From complaint
to restoration.

An investigation alone is not the finish line. Public systems should be accountable for what happens to a family’s home, possession, and equity.

“Recognize the gap. Build the bridge. Measure the outcome.”
  1. 01

    Investigate

Document complaints, identify patterns, and provide meaningful case-status updates.

  2. 02

    Protect

Coordinate urgent assistance when a homeowner faces eviction or foreclosure.

  3. 03

    Represent

Close legal-service gaps for title litigation, related proceedings, and appeals.

  4. 04

    Restore

Measure actual title restoration, continued possession, and preserved equity.

FOR HOMEOWNERS

Concerned about a suspicious property transfer?

Keep copies of your deed, notices, communications, and court papers. Check recorded documents through NYC ACRIS if your property is in an ACRIS-covered borough. Seek qualified legal advice promptly; court deadlines may be short.

For information about reporting suspected deed theft, visit the New York State Attorney General. This website provides public education and advocacy, not legal representation or an emergency-response service.
